Since 1911, St John the Baptist Parish, Ferntree Gully, Victoria has been tending to and nurturing the spiritual, and social needs of its people and the communities in which they live.

St John’s could be described as the ‘mother’ parish in the Knox Deanery, and is proud of its history and the independent parishes that now cluster around its borders.

‘A welcoming parish with a listening ear’, has been used to describe how many new parishioners and visitors feel about this place.

From the early times as the founding parish in the district, St John’s has been about ‘building up and letting go’, as new settlers to the district arrived, were made welcome, and built a new life for themselves in communities that grew into new parish centres.

All of this rich experience is woven into the living history that today forms part of the parish of St John the Baptist, Ferntree Gully.

Today we have more than 70 different groups operating within the parish. We have a Parish Vision, a Pastoral Plan and parish community that seek to live out the Christian ethos of love, service and worship in our daily lives.

St John’s is a welcoming parish that strives to live up to Christ’s teachings of listening to each other, encouraging by prayer, friendship and practical support, and living out our faith lives in the neighborhood, in the community and the world.

Our major spiritual gathering place here in Forest Road has been a landmark, both in a physical and spiritual way, for nearly 100 years.
